1) 114 vs Australia, Perth, 1992

It must have been nerve racking even for a prodigiously gifted teenager like Sachin Tendulkar to bat on a fiery WACA wicket at Perth. For one thing, India had been outclassed in the series having lost three of the four previous Tests. Secondly, the Aussies had packed their side with pacemen and on duty during the final Test were Merv Hughes, Mike Whitney, Paul Reiffel and Craig McDermott.

Team India on its tour to Australia in 1992 was surpassed by the home team as they lost three of the four tests. In the last match of the series at the WACA in Perth, the Indian bowling line packed with greats like Kapil Dev,Javagal Srinath and M Prabhakar managed to take nine of ten wickets as the Aussies were all out for 346 in the first innings. When the Indians came out to bat, the Australian side which consisted of pacers like Mike Whitney, Craig McDermott, Paul Reiffel and Merv Hughes were unstoppable. With deliveries whizzing by the batsman, it required super fast reflexes to survive on this fast and bouncy wicket.

2) 200 not out vs South Africa, Gwalior, 2010

While it is impossible to zero in on Sachin Tendulkar’s greatest Test hundred, it should be a no-contest when it comes to talking of his greatest ODI century. From the historic angle and for the sheer gigantic score, the double hundred against South Africa has to take pride of place.

Other factors in its favour include the fact that India won by 153 runs and that the bowling line-up comprised the likes of Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Wayne Parnell and Charl Langeveldt. For years cricket fans speculated as to which batsman would be the first to reach 200 in an ODI and not unexpectedly the favourites were Virender Sehwag, Adam Gilchrist, Chris Gayle and Shahid Afridi.

3) 169 vs South Africa, Cape Town, 1996

In the first innings of the second Test in Cape Town, South Africa declared there innings at 529 for seven. As the Indian batting line up struggled to survive on the fast paced pitch it was Sachin Tendulkar who led the team from the front. Coming in to bat at 25/3 Tendulkar and Mohd. Azharuddin, managed to add 222 runs on the score board for the sixth wicket before Azharuddin fell at 115. Left with the tail enders, facing world class bowlers like Brian McMillan, Lance Klusener and Shaun Pollock,Tendulkar made a smashing 169. With his flurry master strokes, 26 fours and five and a half hours on the crease, Tendulkar helped India reach a respectable score.

4) 143 vs Australia, Sharjah, 1998

The Australians led off with 284 for seven in 50 overs but the target was revised to 276 from 46 overs following a dust storm. The qualification target was 237 but even this seemed difficult with the Indians 138 for four after 29 overs. However Tendulkar was still there and he proceeded to pace his innings beautifully even as he made some dazzling strokes.

It wasn’t easy for the pressure on him was tremendous and the bowling line-up included the likes of Michael Kasprowicz, Damien Fleming and Shane Warne. It was only after he made sure that India had qualified that Tendulkar was out after facing 131 balls and hitting nine fours and five sixes.

India finished at 250 for five to go down by 26 runs but more important had done enough to qualify for the final where another Tendulkar special of 134 was the highlight of India’s six-wicket victory. The double act prompted Warne in a moving gesture to seek Tendulkar’s autograph on his shirt while admitting that he ‘was hit by the best batsman in the world.’

5) 241* vs Australia, Sydney, 2004

The final match of The Border-Gavaskar Test series in 2004 was played in Sydney. Both teams with the record of 1-1 in the series had everything to play for. The Indian team started on a good note with openers Akash Chopra and Virender Sehwag putting up 123 runs. Both fell of consecutively leaving India 28 for two when Tendulkar entered. Inflicted by bad form, Tendulkar had only scored 82 runs in five innings. He was now up to face pacers like Nathan Bracken, Jason Gillespie, and Brett Lee. With VVS Laxman (178) he made a record of 343 runs for the fourth wicket. Tendulkar silenced the critics by hitting 241 not out when Ganguly declared the innings at 705 runs. The match was drawn but Tendulkar reached new heights by being the fourth batsmen to touch the mark of 9,000 runs in the history of cricket.

6) 155 not out vs Australia, Chennai, 1998

The India-Australia series was billed as ‘Tendulkar vs Warne’ – the world’s best batsman pitted against the world’s best spinner. The first Test at Chennai would obviously set the stage for the contest within a contest. The leg spinner won the opening round, having Tendulkar caught at slip for four in the first innings.

The mid-order collapsing and India were 257 all out. Australia’s batting wasn’t very impressive as well. In the second innings, the only thing that seemed to be on Sachin’s mind was revenge. He destroyed the Australian bowling line up hitting dazzling strokes and runs poured in effortlessly. On the fourth day, Sachin walked in to make a 155 not out when Mohd. Azharuddin declared at 418 for four. A fabulous unbeaten 155 gave India an unforgettable win.

7) 136 vs Pakistan, Chennai, 1999

The high profile India-Pakistan series started in Chennai and India took the opening day’s honours by dismissing the visitors for 238. Openers VVS Laxman and S Ramesh gave the Indians a good start by putting on 67 runs but then they slumped to 72 for three. Among those out was Sachin Tendulkar for a third ball duck.

With some outstanding Indian bowling Pakistan was restricted to 286 runs in the second innings. India were set a target of 271 run but it looked almost impossible as the top three batman failed to perform. Sachin, once again living up to expectations and played an extraordinary innings of 136. Slowly and steadily in the company of Nayan Mongia, Sachin helped India pass 200 runs. Playing under pressure and tackling SaqlainMushtaq and Shahid Afridi this amazing innings of Sachin helped India win the five-dayer.

8 ) 175 vs Australia, Hyderabad, 2009

If the Gwalior double hundred is Tendulkar’s greatest ODI hundred, the 175 against Australia the previous year cannot be far behind. The fact that it came about in a losing cause – the visitors won by three runs – somehow enhances the quality of the feat as far as the gallantry aspect is concerned.

Australia led off with 350 for four but Virender Sehwag and Tendulkar gave the Indians the right kind of start hitting 66 off 8.5 overs. However they slipped to 162 for four in the 24th over. The one consolation was that Tendulkar was not just still around he was batting with the freedom associated with his younger days.

The last three wickets fell in a heap and India were bowled out for 347 in the final over. But Tendulkar was still obviously the choice of man of the match for his 175 for which he faced 141 balls and hit 19 fours and four sixes.

9) 103 not out vs England, Chennai, 2008

The first Test when England toured India in 2008 was a meritorious triumph that Tendulkar helped script for India with a very well crafted 103 not out. In the first innings England put up the target of 316 runs to which India replied by scoring 241 where Sachin scored just 37 runs. Andrew Strauss was the man for England in this match. He scored brilliant centuries in both innings. Kavin Peteresen declared the innings at 311/9. On the last day of the Test, team India had to chase a target of 371 runs. Virender Sehwag first walked in to open the Indian innings and gave an electrifying start by making 83 off 68 balls. However, it was Sachin Tendulkar who starred in this intricate task. He came in at 141/2 and with the help of his other teammates he scored a fantastic 103 of 196 balls.

10) 193 vs England, Leeds, 2002

In this Test, Sachin broke the record of the great Sir Don Bradman — his 30th century at Headingley, in the third Test against England. It was the 99th test and all eyes were glued on Sachin expecting him to propel his team to a win in an away Test. Before Sachin started his innings, Dravid (148) and Sanjay Bangar had already created a stable platform for him Accompanied by Sourav Ganguly (128), Tendulkar pulverised the English attack. With well placed strokes Sachin reached a score of 193 where he fell to English pacer Andy Caddic. The match witnessed three centuries with India scoring its highest innings total in an away Test. With a commendable team effort India won the match by an innings and 46 runs.

10. Rathakrishnan Velu

On August 30, 2007, the eve of Malaysia’s 50th Independence Day, Rathakrishnan Velu (or Raja Gigi, as he is known locally) broke his own world record for pulling train with his teeth, this time with 6 coaches attached weighing 297.1 tons over a distance of 2.8 metres at the Old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. Raja Gigi, from Tampin in Malaysia learned a technique of concentrating his powers to any part of his body from an Indian guru at a young age of 14.

9. Thai Ngoc

Thai Ngoc or Hai Ngoc is a Vietnamese insomniac. According to Vietnamese news organization Thanh Nien, he is best known for his claim of being awake for 38 years. Thanh Nien also claimed that Ngoc acquired the ability to go without sleep after a bout of fever in 1973, but according to the Vietnam Investment Review, there was no apparent cause. At the time of the Thanh Nien report, Ngoc suffered from no apparent ill effect other than being unable to sleep. He was mentally sound and carries two 50 kg bags of pig feed down the 4 km road every day.

In October 2006, however, Ngoc reported that he was beginning to feel “like a plant without water” due to the lack of sleep.

8. MONKFORCE!

Experts have been studying Buddhist monks for more than 20 years, trying to figure out just how in the hell they’re doing what they do. By using a meditation technique called Tum-mo, these monks can lower their metabolism by 64 percent. To put it in perspective, your metabolism only drops 10 to 15 percent when you sleep. And yes, you should feel bad that there are people who make you look uptight when you’re asleep.

But far more awesome than that, the monks can also increase the temperatures of their fingers and toes by 17 degrees. No one knows how.

7. Liew Thow Lin

Liew Thow Lin of Malaysia is known as the “Magnet Man” because he has the ability to stick metal objects to his body.

Liew has performed in many charity events showing his ability.[citation needed] He can make metal objects, weighing up to 2 kg each, up to 36 kg total, stick to his skin. He has also pulled a car using this ability.

Liew’s ability is not due to any source of magnetism. Scientists from Malaysia’s University of Technology found no magnetic field in Lin’s body, but did determine that his skin exhibits very high levels of friction, providing a “suction effect”. The trait appears to be genetic, appearing in Lin’s three grandchildren.

Liew was featured on the second episode of the Discovery Channel’s One Step Beyond.

6. Michel Lotito

Michel Lotito was a French entertainer, born in Grenoble, famous for deliberately consuming indigestible objects. He came to be known as Monsieur Mangetout (“Mister Eat All The Things”).

His performances involved the consumption of metal, glass, rubber and other materials. He disassembled, cut-up, and consumed bicycles, shopping carts, televisions, a Cessna 150, and other items. The Cessna 150 took roughly two years to be “eaten,” from 1978 to 1980. He began eating unusual material as a child around 9 years of age and performed publicly from 1966.

Lotito claimed not to suffer ill effects from consuming the materials, even after consuming materials usually considered poisonous. When performing he consumed around a 1 kilogram (2.2 lb) of material daily, preceding it with mineral oil and drinking considerable quantities of water during the meal.He said, however, that bananas and hard-boiled eggs made him sick. It is estimated that between 1959–1997 Lotito had eaten around 9 ton of metal.

Masutatsu Oyama was born in Korea in 1927 and later moved to Japan, where he studied karate. Unlike most famous martial artists, Oyama is not famous for his movie roles, where stunt men and clever editing can make anyone look like a badass.

No, Oyama preferred a different sort of theater. He used to have live public demonstrations where he would fight and kill a bull with his bare hands. Just because it bears repeating, let’s write that again: He could kill a bull with his hands. If you want to know how idiotically hard that is, we cordially invite you to go out and punch a bull in the face. Go on, we’ll wait here. OK, we’re not really waiting since whoever just went out to try that isn’t coming back.

2. Ben Underwood

Human echolocation is the ability of humans to detect objects in their environment by sensing echoes from those objects. By actively creating sounds – for example, by tapping their canes, lightly stomping their foot or making clicking noises with their mouths – people trained to orientate with echolocation can interpret the sound waves reflected by nearby objects, accurately identifying their location and size. This ability is used by some blind people for acoustic wayfinding, or navigating within their environment using auditory rather than visual cues. It is similar in principle to active sonar and to the animal echolocation employed by some animals, including bats and dolphins.

1. Daniel Tammet

Tammet holds the European record for memorising and recounting pi to 22,514 digits in just over five hours. He also speaks a variety of languages including English, French, Finnish, German, Spanish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Estonian, Icelandic, Welsh and Esperanto. He particularly likes Estonian, because it is rich in vowels. Tammet is creating a new language called Mänti. Tammet is capable of learning new languages very quickly. To prove this for the Channel Five documentary, Tammet was challenged to learn Icelandic in one week. Seven days later he appeared on Icelandic television conversing in Icelandic, with his Icelandic language instructor saying it was “not human.”
